Photopolymer Plate Printmaking
As a photographer and printmaker I have been researching ways to layer my images in my exploration of alternative photgraphy methods, as a way of connecting and collaborating with place. I have created a number of processes utilising pinhole photography, photograms, frottage, and lumen printing. Scanning and digitising these images has created a bank of images which I want to be able to use in different ways. I was introduced to Photopolymer Plate Printing at a winter school at Sturt Gallery and Studios in 2017, and have always had in the back of my mind that it was a process that I wanted to research further.
I had reached a stage where I wanted to find ways to springboard my practice beyond where I I currently was, and found and successfully applied for a Regional Arts Tasmania Quick Response Grant in February which funded me to attend a two day workshop with Dianne Longley, of Agave Studio in Trentham, Victoria. I am so grateful to #RegionalArtsAustralia, #RegionalArtsFund, and #RANT for the opportunity to work with such a well known national and international printmaker.
The project was for workshop tuition and investigation focussed on a range of printmaking with photopolymer plate options using photographic/digital files and drawing as source materials.

Preparation of Digital Negative
A professional learning journey
I would highly recommend Diane’s book Printmaking with Photopolymer Plates available from her website.
Using photoshop, create digital negative which will give a velvety black, and tonal range.

Stage 2-
A Studio Revamp
I learned so much more than the process of making Photopolymer plates, which has led to revamping my studio space after talking and experiencing working in a different studio. Work flow, accessibility of materials, essential hardware and ergonomics for long days have been major considerations.

Modifying an affordable glass topped table is invaluable, and setting up white table hastaken some time to work through, but very worthwhile.
